Protect Your Building from Water Damage #

Proper installation of gutters, trim, and peak caps isn’t just cosmetic—it’s essential for drainage, water protection, and long-term performance. This section explains how to install each component with proper overlaps, seals, and fastener spacing.

Gutter & Downspout Installation (Optional) #

If your SNAP building includes gutters:

  1. Attach end caps to the first gutter section using pop rivets and caulk
  2. Cut a downspout opening in the gutter (pilot hole + tin snips)
  3. Attach gutter to the roof panel underside with #12 x 7/8” screws every 3 feet
  4. Install gutter support straps with sealant tape every 3 feet on high ribs
  5. Overlap gutter joints by 2–3”, rivet, and seal
  6. Install downspout straps and slide downspouts into position
  7. Attach kickout elbow to direct water away from foundation

Rake Trim Installation #

Rake trim covers the sloped edge of the roof and seals the ends of the panels.

  1. If using eave trim, attach end caps to the bottom of the rake trim
  2. If using gutters, attach corner boxes instead
  3. Apply sealant tape to the outer edge of the rake trim’s roof-facing lip
  4. Align rake trim flush to the roof edge and sidewall panels
  5. Fasten with #12 x 7/8” screws every 12” into the roof panel rib
  6. Use outside closures under rake trim to prevent water intrusion
  7. Stitch rake trim to sidewall panels on high ribs

Peak Box Installation (Optional) #

Peak boxes cover the intersection of rake trims at the building’s peak, providing a clean look and watertight seal.

  1. Apply sealant tape to all mating surfaces
  2. Set peak box over rake trim ends
  3. Secure with (8) #12 x 1-1/4” screws
  4. Seal all joints and seams with approved caulk

Best Practices & Tips #

  • Align fasteners with panel ribs for a clean look
  • Use sealant tape continuously—no gaps or voids
  • Cut gutters and trim carefully to avoid sharp edges
  • Sweep all drill shavings from gutters and roof to avoid rust

FAQ #

Do I need gutters on a SNAP building?
No, but they’re recommended in high-rainfall regions to protect the foundation and reduce splashback.

Can I install trim before roof panels?
No. Rake trim must go on after roof panels so the seal and fit are correct.

What’s the difference between an end cap and a corner box?
Use end caps when finishing into eave trim. Use corner boxes when integrating with gutters.
