Add Light Without Leaks #

SNAP’s skylight panel clusters are designed to integrate directly into your metal roof. But unlike steel panels, skylights must be installed with special attention to overlaps and sealant placement to avoid water intrusion.

⚠️ Skylight panels are not load-bearing. Never walk or place tools on them. Always work from scaffolding or walk boards.

Skylight Installation Overview #

Each skylight panel must overlap:

  • The panel below it
  • The panel to the left and right

This ensures rain and condensation flow off the roof, not into seams.

Step-by-Step: Install Skylight Cluster #

  1. Pre-cut insulation to match roof width plus 4 extra feet (2′ per side)
  2. Apply double-sided tape to eave trim
  3. Roll insulation eave-to-eave and trim flat
  4. Pre-fit roof panels (on either side of the skylight) to mark spacing
  5. Cut and remove insulation only in skylight area
  6. Cut an “X” in the vinyl backing and fold flaps outward

Apply Sealant Tape Before Panel Install #

  1. Clean the skylight contact surfaces
  2. Apply continuous sealant tape along outer edge of the lower panel’s high rib
  3. Remove backing paper only as you install to avoid dust or loss of adhesion
  4. Avoid placing stitch screws through the sealant

Install Skylight Panels #

  1. Place the skylight panel so it laps over the surrounding panels
  2. Clamp it securely in place
  3. Use #12 x 7/8” self-tapping screws with sealing washers
  4. Screw through high ribs only, spacing every 20″
  5. Fasten edges first, then work inward to avoid bubbles or warping
  6. Install inside closure strips under edge as required

Final Checklist #

  • All skylights overlap adjacent panels on all sides
  • No screws through sealant tape
  • Closure strips installed beneath edges
  • All screws tightened and rubber washers seated
  • Vinyl backing folded under and sealed

Can I cut the skylight panel to fit a custom space?
No. Panels should not be field-modified. Contact SNAP for custom skylight sizing options.

Can I install skylights anywhere on the roof?
Only in flat panel zones, not over hips, valleys, or tight ridges.

Are skylight panels walkable during install?
No. Never step on a skylight panel. Use adjacent roof panels, scaffolding, or approved walk boards.
