Start With the Panels That Protect It All #
This phase of your building project adds protection and durability. Done correctly, panel and insulation installation locks in energy efficiency and weather resistance. This section covers everything from pre-drilling screw holes to installing corner and eave trim with proper sequencing.
Understand Your Panel Types #
SNAP buildings use two panel profiles (see Figure 18):
- R Panel: Symmetrical, can be installed in either direction
- PBR Panel: Same profile with an extended purlin-bearing leg for better overlap
Always start panels with laps going with the wind to prevent uplift.

Prep the Worksite #
- Stage panels in stacks of 10 for easy pre-drilling
- Secure all materials from wind before installation
- Place insulation near install zones to reduce handling

Pre-Drill Sidewall Panels #
Drill pilot holes for clean screw placement and professional appearance:
Lap Screws #
- 1/4″ clearance holes
- Every 30″ along the high rib
- First hole 1-7/8″ from bottom, last 1″ from top
Base-Angle Pilot Holes #
- 1/8″ holes in panel flats beside ribs
- Every 6″ along bottom edge
Girt Pilot Holes #
- 1/8″ holes in flats, approx. 12″ apart
Based on girt spacing from drawings
Install Sidewall Insulation #
- Cut insulation 4β6″ longer than panel height
- Use double-sided tape on base-angle and eave strut
- Stick insulation in place, trim flush to structure
- Leave 2β4″ of vapor barrier past the insulation for sealing
Never allow insulation to wick moisture from the concrete slab.
Install Wall Panels (Starting Panel) #
- Start at a corner
- Raise panel 1/4″ off the slab
- Align high rib with framing edge
- Secure using #12 x 1-1/4β self-tapping screws in pre-drilled holes

Stitching & Sealing Panels #
- Lap screws: #12 x 7/8β self-tapping with sealing washer
- Install every 30″ along panel overlaps
- Do not overdrive screwsβseal washer must compress, not split
- Avoid walking on panels until fully secured

Install Trim and Flashing #
Corner Trim #
- Place 1″ below eave trim
- Fasten every 30″ with #12 screws
Eave Trim (No Gutter) #
- Seat trim at eave, align with wall panel ribs
- Screw into high rib every 3′
Gutter Counter Flashing (With Gutter) #
- Screw flashing to eave strut (not panels)
- Use approved caulk at all lap joints
- Align screws under roof high ribs to avoid visible heads

FAQ #
Can I install panels without pre-drilling?
You can, but pre-drilling ensures straight lines and a clean finish. Itβs highly recommended.
What insulation types work best with these panels?
Reinforced vinyl-backed roll insulation is the standard. Foil-backed is also compatible.
How high off the slab should I install panels?
Minimum 1/4″. Direct contact voids the panel warranty due to wicking/corrosion.
